George Howard O'Dell was born January 4, 1954 in Baltimore, Maryland. He served in the United States Army as a door gunner, 1970 and 1971 in the Viet Nam War. George O'Dell died November 24, 1992, at the age of 38 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head while on vacation in New Orleans with his wife, Sandra. He could not, any longer deal with the atrocities he seen and committed while serving in Viet Nam. We now know that he was suffering from PTSD at the time of his death, but he was ignorant to the fact that he had PTSD. He was a computer-assisted draft designer for Alcon Laboratories. He was given a military funeral and buried at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas. We are currently waiting for a copy of his DD-214 to list all awards and citations received while on active duty. These will be posted at a later date. |
